Target distribution varies by business type. Local businesses naturally concentrate in their country TLD plus .com. International businesses should show TLD diversity reflecting their market footprint. SaaS companies serving global audiences might target 40% .com, 15% .org and .net combined, 10% .edu and .gov combined, and 35% distributed across country TLDs matching customer geography.

.edu and .gov links carry outsized trust signals. Profiles with even 2-3% from these TLDs outperform profiles with none, all else equal. Earning these links requires genuinely valuable resources since educational and government sites rarely link for commercial reasons.

SERP Survival Metrics

Algorithm update analysis reveals diversity’s protective effect. Sites with high diversity metrics across IP, ASN, ratio, and TLD dimensions show approximately 40% lower ranking loss during major algorithm updates compared to concentrated profiles with equivalent authority.
